Chilling in Bohol, but Dreaming of More

Imagine sleeping on top of a mountain without a tent.

My friends and I did just that when we went to BOHOL! We laid our exhausted bodies on a tarp, enveloped by the cold breeze until night came. The blanket of stars began to fill the sky above. As time went by, the sea of clouds woke us up early in the morning, just below us. It was one of the best views I have ever seen. We also witnessed the pink sunset over the Chocolate Hills and saw the beautiful landscapes of the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. We also visited the astounding Can-umantad Falls, which presented marvels to our sights. Later that day, we also swam in the mystic Canawa Spring, whose depth is unknown to anyone. Those were the times my memories were etched in my mind, such unforgettable times in BOHOL. It was such an adventurous time that I told myself I had to go back. 🫡

I recently had the opportunity to visit Bohol again for a work-related trip. The venue was in Panglao, a beautiful island in the Philippines. After a stressful and exhausting week of work, I treated myself to a tour of Bohol. I was lucky enough to join a group tour that took me to some of the island’s most popular attractions. ❤️ I had a wonderful time exploring Bohol, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Anyhoo, these are the things I did in BOHOL.

Rising with the Sun in Panglao

My phone malfunctioned and I was unable to take any more photos, but I refused to let that ruin my day. Instead, I immersed myself in the beauty that surrounded me, especially the spectacular sunrise I witnessed in Panglao. You can read about my experience here.

Visiting the Famous Chocolate Hills

This is my second time visiting the Chocolate Hills. The weather was cloudy at the time, and it rained a little. The air was still and humid. I felt a sense of anticipation, wondering if the sun would come out and reveal the hills in all their glory. After a few minutes, the clouds began to break up, and the sun shone through, showing off the beauty of the Chocolate Hills in Bohol. The Chocolate Hills are truly wonders of nature. I am always in awe every time I visit here.❤️

Admiring the Tarsiers

Typhoon Odette devastated the Philippines, especially Bohol, leaving hundreds of tarsiers presumed dead. However, several tarsiers were found alive. The tarsiers’ survival is a testament to the hard work of the people who saved them, and their story inspires us to protect the environment. ❤️ I am so happy that I was finally able to see these cute little primates in person, and I am grateful that there were several tarsiers that survived that dreadful typhoon. Here are some fun facts about these cute animals.

• Tarsiers have the largest eyes relative to body size of any mammal. Each eyeball is around 16 millimeters in diameter, which is as large as the tarsier’s entire brain.
• Tarsiers can turn their heads 180 degrees in each direction, just like owls. This allows them to scan their surroundings for prey or predators without having to move their bodies.
• Tarsiers are nocturnal animals, which means they are active at night. They use their large eyes and excellent hearing to hunt insects and small vertebrates.
• Tarsiers are entirely carnivorous, and their diet consists mainly of insects, spiders, and small vertebrates.
  

Witnessing the Butterflies’ Transformation

We visited Enchanted Bohol Philippines in the hope of seeing tarsiers. We were lucky to see not just tarsiers, but other wildlife as well, albeit sadly in cages. The butterflies were also a highlight of the visit, as we were able to see the different stages of their life cycle in person, from larva to cocoon to butterfly. It was fascinating to see this natural process up close. ❤️

Unraveling the Mystery of the Strange Statues

The thing about getting a tour is that you only have limited time to explore. The tour around Enchanted Bohol Philippines cost 120.00 Pesos and it only took about an hour to walk around. The place is huge, and there wasn’t enough time to see everything. We saw tarsiers, butterflies, other wildlife, different faunas and floras in Enchanted Bohol Philippines, but what I didn’t expect to see were those strange statues. I thought they were just made for photo purposes, but they actually have stories behind them. I’m just sad that I didn’t have enough time to see all of the statues and read their stories.

Standing in Awe of the Manmade Forest

When we were done in Enchanted Bohol Philippines, our next stop was the Man-Made Forest. I was seated in the front passenger seat of the van, and I was ecstatic to see the view of the man-made forest upfront while driving through it. Of course, we made a stop for picture purposes. The trees along the road were refreshingly beautiful to look at. I hope that every road in the world has trees. It is a better way to live on the planet and, of course, helps to lessen global warming.❤️

Savoring the Beauty of the Loboc River

I had always heard about the beauty of the Loboc River, but I never imagined that it would be as stunning as it was in person. Even though I could still see some remnants of the damage that Typhoon Odette had devastated, I could still see its beauty of it. The water was crystal-clear green, and the riverbanks were lined with towering trees. As we cruised down the river, I could see fish swimming in the water and birds flying overhead. It was a truly magical experience. ❤️

Enjoying a Sumptuous Buffet of Filipino Cuisine on a Loboc River cruise.

We ate our delicious lunch on the floating restaurant that also served as a boat that cruised us on the Loboc River. They served a variety of dishes and these were really delicious. We had a great view of the river while we ate. After lunch, we made a stop at a cultural village where we saw a traditional dance performance. The dancers were dressed in colorful costumes, and they performed a variety of dances, including the Tinikling. It was a great way to learn about the culture of Bohol.

Savoring the beauty of the Loboc River was an unforgettable experience. It is a place that I will never forget.

Globetrotting in Bohollywood

On the day of our tour, the weather was not that good. Sometimes the sun shone, but sometimes it rained hard. That was also the reason why I didn’t globetrot at Bohollywood because it was raining and I hadn’t brought an umbrella. Anyway, yes, you can travel around the world in this place because some of the world’s famous statues and architectures are in Bohol. They made replicas of them for people to take pictures. I also didn’t enter because the entrance fee is 150.00 PESOS. I would just tour around and take photos for a short period of time. This is the reason why I have to go back to Bohol again. I have to be here again, not minding the time, if ever I come back and enjoy exploring the world, hehe.😊

Souvenir Shopping

Bohol offers a variety of delicious delicacies, the most famous of which is Kalamay, a sticky sweet delicacy that is made of coconut milk, brown sugar, and ground glutinous rice. My officemates often bring it as souvenirs or pasalubong whenever they go to Bohol. While I was waiting for the people from the Bohollywood, I hung out outside with a bunch of vendors selling souvenirs. I also noticed this food, chichaworm. I have tried almost everything here, but this is one new thing for me. They sell fried worms. Do I have the courage to eat chichaworm? Abangan! haha 🤣

Indulging in Different Street Foods in Tagbilaran

Believe it or not, one of the highlights that stood out in my memory was the street food in Tagbilaran, Bohol. It wasn’t part of the tour, but we stopped by in Tagbilaran first on our way back to Cebu. Street food in the Philippines is basically the same: kwek kwek, tempura, fishballs, etc. The flavors are basically the same all over the Philippines, but I think the sauce differs. The one I tried was so yummy that the flavors exploded in my mouth. Ugh! 🤤If I ever go back to Bohol, I have to make a stop here again. It’s so yummy that I’ll make a different blog about this one, for sure! 🤤

Dreaming of More

I know this tour is basically just a chill tour, where we hire a van and make all the stops at the tourist spots in Bohol. However, there are still so many things I want to try in Bohol, such as bungee jumping in Danao, hiking Alicia Hills, dipping in Cabagnow Cave Pool, seeing the dolphins in Panglao, island hopping to Virgin Island, freediving in the waters of Balicasag Island, ATV-ing in Chocolate Hills, and many, many, many more cool things. Ugh, I need more money and time to be able to do all of that, and I need stamina because this flabby, chubby woman cannot do that anymore, hahaha! 🤣BOHOL, you are such a beautiful province, I will be back with a vengeance (charot) hahaha! 🤣
